Hallo Herr Prof. Scholbach,

wir hatten Anfrang Februar mit unserer Tochter einen Termin bei Ihnen.

Wir möchten uns ausdrücklich bei Ihnen bedanken. Das Leben unserer Tochter startet gerade neu.

Die Operation ist jetzt 5 Wochen her und langsam pendelt sich alles wieder ein. Sie kann wieder relativ normal essen und blüht langsam und stetig auf.

Endlich plant sie wieder Unternehmungen und trifft sich auch schon kurze Zeit mit Ihren Freunden.

Natürlich hat sie noch Wundschmerzen, sie betont aber immer wieder, dass diese nicht mit den vorigen Schmerzen vergleichbar sind.

Nächste Woche startet sie mit Physiotherapie und danach möchte sie wieder regelmäßig ins Fitnessstudio gehen.

All das wäre nicht möglich gewesen, wenn wir nicht Anfang Februar die 450 km zu Ihnen gefahren werden. Ehrlich gesagt, waren Sie unser letzter Strohhalm. Eine Odyssee an Arztbesuchen, Klinikaufenthalten mit diversen Tests liegt hinter uns. Aber jeder sagte uns, dass alles in Ordnung sei. Dabei hatte leider kein Arzt an Gefäßkompressionen gedacht.

Danke auch, dass Sie uns so zeitnah einen Termin in der Klinik in Düsseldorf verschafft haben. Das Team zusammen Professor Sandmann sind einfach großartig.

Wagen Sie es ja nicht irgendwann einmal in den Ruhestand zu gehen, ohne einen geeigneten Nachfolger für Ihre Arbeit zu finden. Ihre Können müssen sie unbedingt weitergeben, für unsere Tochter waren Sie der Lebensretter. Ich werde Sie uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

Yes , no pain medication since July last year 🙂 !  …is gaining weight, eating well, doing a Salsa course, doing yoga course, swimming, walking every day (and she can’t believe that she can walk without feeling any pain in her legs……:).)

….is doing well in her recovery, her weight is back to normal, now 1 year after the surgery. No food coming up since she had the surgery. Pain in the kidney area has gone.

Dear prof Scholbach

I went to see you for the Doppler US examination, due to 14 years of postprandial pain, on the 22 th of sep. You diagnosed me with left venal vein compression and may thurner constellation among other things.

Thank you so much for the report and for the examination. I am you forever great full for giving me a diagnose and a possible way to treat it……

It has only been a month and I have a new life with no or only little postprandial pain. I am gaining weight and I am not afraid of eating before going to work or eating if I am going somewhere special.

That makes me feel so much happier and I have more energy at work and with my family (I think my husband sometimes misses me being quietJ)

I stopped taking duloxetin as a painkiller….

Hello Professor Scholbach!!

I think of you every day and am reminded of the beautiful blessing God has given me, when we were led to Germany! For some reason tonight, I sat down and read your email you sent after my first exam in Germany, and for the first time, really truly took the time to read every word and detail, and I am quite emotional. I cannot begin to tell you how much my life has changed since the surgery. I no longer know what it is like to experience pain from eating. I can sit down with the family and enjoy a full course meal, even though my portion is still quite small compared to many. I have not gained any weight since surgery, but neither have I lost any, and that is very encouraging to me! Seven weeks after surgery, I was able to get rid of my PICC line for good. I’m enjoying food, like I never knew possible. My family will still sit and stare some days, with eyes wide and jaws dropped at the very sight of me attempting to eat food!😁 My nieces and nephews remark at the oddness of Aunt Susie eating when they eat. It truly is such a blessing!! And one, that I just never knew to be possible!! Thank you so much for your part in all of this!!

I had really hoped to stop in on our way home from Düsseldorf, but I was so weak and exhausted and didn’t know how it would be possible to have an ultrasound performed on a tummy that felt too tender to touch.😊 We flew back home on May 31st. My recovery was definitely more rough than any of my previous surgeries, but I was back to work a few days after surgery..working from my hospital bed, scheduling surgeries.

One major disappointment that I’m facing is the severe separation of my abdominal muscles and a big hernia in my lower abdomen. I am currently undergoing testing and then another surgery to repair that. This has happened for me after my MALS surgery, but I thought it was something I had done, such as exercise such as planks etc. This time I didn’t do any physical activity of any sort, and didn’t lift more than 10 pounds for almost four months, and still it happened. My surgeons recognize this is probably due to the extensive EDS and so now they are taking extra measures to assure this will not happen again, by placing mesh between every layer of muscle in my abdomen. We hope for the best, as usual!😁 Surely, surgery number 14 will be my lucky number!!

Just wanted to say thank you again for all your help! You and your team have truly been a life saver in so many ways, and I feel quite blessed to have had the means and support to seek help in your country!! Life has such an interesting twist to it, and I can’t regret anything I went through over the years, and I didn’t know it could be lived with so much less pain, and the joy of eating food. I actually experience now, what I used to ponder about…how can someone actually pretend to enjoy food so much!! It wasn’t pretending!! It was real!!😁 Food is good, and it is enjoyable!!

Dear Professor,

…I can’t thank you enough for the work you are doing. I am about 15 weeks post-op and my life has changed so much.

I have gone from daily debilitating headaches to one every two weeks. My Orthostatic tremor is gone and other tremors are rare.

I can stand upright without presyncope.

I remember the first time I stood and hugged my husband after surgery. We cried as I had been unable to hug him or my children for more than a few seconds before needing to sit.

I wonder how many lives you’ve taken part in changing…in saving.

I started an Instagram detailing everything someone needs to know to get to Leipzig and Düsseldorf. I’ve had two women from different countries reach out to me as well as woman I go to church with will be seeing you in October.

I’m trying to take all the worry and stress out of such a stressful time, because I know if they can believe the obstacles can be overcome, their lives can be changed too.

I had a CTA done at one year post up. A radiologist, vascular surgeon, and urologist (who also places PTFE grafts around renal vein) all looked over my imaging to confirm my PTFE grafts and organs still looked great. An additional (and unexpected) benefit from my surgery became evident at a year post op when an ultrasound was performed. It showed my previous severe chronic insufficiency in my legs was completely gone. I have two different doctors who diagnosed this prior to my compression surgery. I even remember a tech asking if I had diabetes because she was shocked at the severity.

Congratulations on your publication connecting EDS & multiple vascular compressions. All the warriors, family, & friends have been celebrating since we heard the news. Thank you for your continued time, energy, and purpose to help all of us.
